I didn't start this thread detour. JAC1982 suggested that a woman marry a man 12 years younger like her mother did and I added my experience and commentary. Anyway, for full disclosure my wife was 29 with 1 son when I met her so I wasn't robbing the cradle, just stretching the envelope.
By the way, this interesting link says that in younger couples the average is a man 2 years older; in middle-aged couples the average is a man 4 years older (not quite 5 to 10). As to why they do it, a lot of times money is a motivator. It doesn't hurt to have some money. That doesn't mean I have a lot, but I'm financially secure.
