If it is an Atwood WH they recommend in their manual to use vinegar to remove the smell. They recommend removing the relief valve and pouring the vinegar in and letting it set for a while then flush. If you don't mind spending a little extra money on vinegar and don't want to remove the valve you can just pump it in through the winterizing connection after draining it and reinstalling the plug.
