I just read in the manual, Page 57 in this PDF ... the page number is 51, that leaving water in the water heater can contaminate and permanently damage the water heater. We left the camper a week ago...

We are fulltimers, so our water heater is always full. We drain it once in awhile to get any crud out (just like you should your tank at home) and then refill.
