Ordinary garden hoses contain plasticizers and additives that are not approved by the FDA for direct food/water contact. The (usually) white hoses sold for drinking water connections do not contain these ingredients.
Will you get sick/die from drinking out of a garden hose, or using one to fill your FW tank? Obviously not. But I would not routinely drink water that had been sitting in one for hours, as is the case when you are hooked up to city water in a RV.
