Water life

I have a basic question about fresh water usage in an RV. How long are you comfortable leaving water in your fresh water tank during spring and fall weather? I live in Arizona and use my RV every 2-3 months, pretty much year round. I don't leave fresh water in the tank during the heat of summer for fear of algae build-up, but what about the rest of the year?

    I usually dump and drain everything when I get back from a trip and then fill up the fresh tank again before I leave.

    I'm on a well so don't have chlorinated water. I'm sure city water would hold up better.
