Water pressure issue

I was recently camping at Lakewood CG in Myrtle Beach and experienced pressure/flow issues. I've camped here several times with no issues.

Pressure was 60psi. Checked with a gauge.

This problem occurred with or without a reducer.

Pressure would be good for a minute then drop. This occurred at all faucets/shower in the camper. It was really low flow, you could barely rinse the soap off.
I first thought my wife was trying to shower at same time as me. I use the outside shower in a shower tent.

Switch to on board tank/pump and everything is fine.

This lasted for about a week, then started working just fine. The people around me said their water was "sufficient". They spoke little English, and I speak zero French.
Sufficient is a relative term... :)
Could the check valve in my city inlet been malfunctioning?
Never had this issue before, and all was normal at home before the trip.

Thank you

  • Three things......

    1) that 'reducer'...........buy a good quality regulator (Watts)
    2) city water inlet screen/washer......is it clogging up?
    3) city water inlet check valve...they are cheap plastic plunger/spring/o-ring assembly. o-ring get dislodged/plunger is cocked.
  • Check valve may have had some crud in it, that eventually moved through the screen or moved out of the way.
  • The city water backflow preventer would be my guess as to the cause. I may not do it with a higher water pressure (like at home) but 60 PSI is the maximum pressure designed for MOST RVs. Some have a maximum of 40 PSI.
