Water pump runs when switched off.

I've searched the forums but have found this particular problem. My water pump works fine but I can't turn it off. The switches (I have 3 in my motorhome) seem to work properly. The light goes on and off as expected but the pump always kicks in when I open a tap. The only way to stop it is to unplug the power at the pump.

I recently bought this motorhome so I don't know any history. Any suggestions? Could this be a controller problem?

  • That certainly does act like a controller issue. A stuck relay contact maybe. Try tapping on it with a screwdriver handle to see if it breaks loose. That's not a permanent fix, but it will verify the cause if it works.
  • Put a voltage meter on the pump and check the switch. Something must not be wired correctly.
  • Sounds like the controller box for the pump is bad. I don't know where it is but generally all the switches go to the box and that controls the pump.
