I suspect that in 1974 most RV's were traveling down the road at 50 or 55mph and the windows were not as tinted as they are today. A slower more relaxed pace back then maybe?
With 15,000 pounds plus behind me I really am not interested in trying to wave and watch for waves from other RVers. I am not trying to be friendly or "cool" pulling that monster down the road, I am trying to drive defensively and stay safe. Unlike 1974, there are actually idiots texting and talking on cell phones today you had better be watching out for.
As far as pulling over for someone broke down on the side of the road, those days are long gone. As a retired Trooper the best advise I can give you is to have your passenger call to alert authorities that there is a stranded motorist needing help. You will usually create a bigger traffic hazard by trying to slow your RV down to pull over safely. Then you are betting that the broken down motorist is just a "good old boy" like you and not some criminal that actually stole that RV and killed the owners last night!
No folks, it isn't 1974 any longer.
