All my RVs have been painted or clear coat surfaces. I have been an early adopter of quick detail automotive products for decades on all forms of painted surfaces. I think some of the better ones such as Meguiar's Ultimate Detailer afford just about the same level of protection as laboriously applied cleaner waxes. Of course the detailer will not polish oxidized surfaces or do much to remove buildups. My strategy is on good looking surfaces just to use the quick detailer. It beads water just as long as the hard to use stuff. If things start to show buildups, oxidation, etc. then is the time to use the more muscular products. I find the detailer greatly postpones the need for heavier treatment. Current RV is 5 years old, stored outside and the great majority of it has never been treated with anything other than Ultimate Detailer...and it shines! I will do the cleaner/waxes on a spot basis when needed. In my Walmart trips, I will buy half dozen bottles of the detailer at a time. Great stuff!
Edit: I've helped maintain fiberglass Escape/Scamp trailers. This strategy has not been as successful there. To keep them looking their best, they need more frequent polishing.
