I've used both friction bars and my current Husky Centerline, and prefer the integrated sway control of the Husky. Either will do the job, but the Husky is easier to hitch up, and feels more stable.
Watch your payload (trailer tongue weight counts as payload) with a small truck it is usually the number you will exceed first. Ideal tongue weight for a TT is around 13-15% of loaded trailer weight, so figure 650 lb or so for your 4600 lb TT.
If your Ranger has P metric tires, you can gain more stability by going to a LT tire.
