Maybe it's because I'm Canadian and see this from a different perspective BUT in reading the OP's post I'd have to ask - so what's your point? :h Up to 1/2 million people cross the US / Canadian border every day, including ourselves - for shopping, camping, vacationing, etc - what's so special about your crossing? :R

Ummm, guessing there's a lot of people that don't go to Canadia regularly and it's kind of a big deal.
1/2 million crossings each day, both directions, isn't "a lot of people"? :h

Plus was useful info about the ATF regs for those that may not be aware.
Not aware? Anyone who intends to cross the US / Canadian border is obligated to understand policies and restrictions put in place by both countries. There's no magic to any of this - don't follow those rules and you can expect to be challenged. Crossing the border to enter another country other than your own is a privilege, not a right ... when you come to Canada you play by our rules, especially when it comes to firearms which are far more severely restricted here than in the US. We have no "2nd Amendment" here in Canada, nor do the vast majority of Canadians want it, so obviously regulations limiting the importation of firearms into Canada are considerably different than in the US. As one who may want to enter Canada with a firearms it's therefore your obligation to understand that beforehand, no excuses. :R
