I have a 2015 ram 2500 4x4 and wanted some opinions if i need a wd hitch, the trailer i am purchasing is a 2015 radiance 28' with a total weight of 4800lbs. and tongue of approx 400lbs.
Thanks in advance
The problem I am having is I will be driving to Indiana to pick the trailer up at a dealer and wanted to actually measure the trailer and my truck to see how much drop I would need for the hitch, the Ram sits so high in the rear I think I may need a large drop hitch but dont know for sure, also I can get a cheaper one on ebay and save a couple bucks if I knew what I needed.
According to RAM, it is okay to tow without a WDH if the tongue weight is less than 500# and the TT weight is less than 5000#.
However, if you're towing an empty trailer with 440# TW and 4880# total weight, the TW% will be 9.0%.
RAM recommends the tongue weight be at least 10%.
I would not tow a 28' TT with a TW% less than 12%.
And, I would not tow a 28' TT without some type of sway control.
Have you contacted the manufacturer or dealer to find out what the coupler height is for the 24BHDS?
If you know that, and if you know your truck's receiver height, you should be able to calculate how much drop you need.
