Weights

Have a 2010 Ford F250 crew cab 4x4 super duty diesel. Ford data shows 15300 pounds maximum towing weight. We tow a 2008 Montana 3485SA fifth wheel trailer. The shipping weight listed in the trailer is 12,000 lbs. The GVWR is 15250. We stopped at a CAT Scales on the way home from a trip a couple days ago to weigh the rigs. CAT scales weight each axle at the same time.

The scale printout is:

Steering axle: 5200 lbs.
Drive axle: 5860 lbs.
Trailer axles: 10340 lbs.
Total: 21400 lbs.

What's the opinion of the weight experts? The trailer was loaded with the usual stuff for a trip. The only variable is the food in the refrigerator.

Check your RAWR and tire rating to be sure but assuming those are up to snuff I think you're fine at those weights. I imagine your RAWR is well over 6000 lbs.

Edit - apparently it's 6100 lbs so not well over 6000, but still comfortably over the scaled weight.
  • 2010 F250 GVWR is 10,000#

    Scaled weight.....11,060 (1,060# over GVWR)

    GCWR.....23,000# (scaled 21,400)...so under by 1,600#

    FAWR......6000 (scaled 5200).......so under by 800#
    RAWR......6100 (scaled 5860).......so under by 240#

What is Load rating on rear tires?

    Otherwise......
Under on axle ratings so I stamp it good to go (provided tires are NOT over!)
  • Maximum towing weight really doesn't mean much when you're talking about 5th wheels. More of a concern is the pin weight and what it is doing to your GVW.

Looks like your GVW is about 11,000 lbs. You're probably over your GVWR a bit. Check out what your GVWR is and see how you feel about it.
