I cannot for the life of me understand why spouses (mostly women, I agree) would knowingly and willingly put themselves in potential danger by NOT knowing what to do. We've had 2 pop-ups, a 5th wheel, and a C with a toad. I could hook, unhook, tow, set-up, break down-basically everything necessary. My backing skills weren't good but at least they were there. Our son knew how to do everything as well, even though he didn't have a driver's license. It is IMPERATIVE that at least one other person know what to do in the event of an emergency. I do know there are a number of members who's spouses cannot drive for health reasons but those are the exception and not the rule.
Not to be sexist (well, kind of, maybe!) but sometimes it's the way the husband handles the situation that's the issue. Do you yell? Criticize? Do you teach or bark orders? Sometimes spouses will use excuses so they "just don't get into it". Are they truly afraid of driving or afraid of being berated, etc.? All of us have seen couples fight upon arrival. Sometimes it's just the stress of a long drive but sometimes it's a matter of "you aren't doing it right". Just asking that some of you whose spouses won't drive just take a look for other underlying causes.
