We lived in Santa Rosa, CA prior to moving to Corvallis, OR. Of course that part of California has seasonal rain during the late fall, winter and (sometimes) early spring. The rest of the time it is DRY. As California weather wussies we were so concerned about retiring here that we decided to rent out our home in CA and rent a home here to give it a tryout for a year.
Corvallis in not on the coast so we get 4" to 12" of snow every other year or so. It usually last a week and we are sorry to see it go. On the other hand we definitely get more rain than we did in CA. Strange thing though, you rarely see any umbrellas in this neck of the woods. Rain that would keep us indoors while living in CA is pretty much just ignored around here. We love the local weather and the variety it offers. Seldom is it the same in the Willamette Valley and at the coast, about an hour away.
We have no blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes of note (yet), droughts or floods. In fact there is little weather to talk about, except the rain and it is just ignored and does little to hinder activities. The clean air, expansive scenic beaches, lovely forests, bubbling brooks and great fishing streams/rivers tend to keep you outside, rain or shine. We love it!!!
BTW no state has a better state park camping system and there are lots of them both on the coast and inland.
