I can tell you from 57 years of driving in every condition up here in the cold north,that the first thing you do is into neutral.Easing off the gas or taking your foot off the gas is as bad as braking,and is worse with a manual then an auto
Guess we'll agree to disagree. I've never had an issue with just taking my foot off the accelerator. I am much more comfortable with keeping my hands on the wheel than try to fumble to switch into neutral. I also believe the kind of vehicle you are driving (sedan, truck, Front WD, All WD) plays a part in how the vehicle responds, but all in all I have to agree with Pitch. Black ice is a whole 'nuther story.
