To the OP: I also live in Austin and go that route all the time. I'd place the blame on the driver ahead which forced the OP to take evasive action, and there isn't that much time to think when someone else fails to heed conditions.
He doesn't get the choice of where to place blame-that's what the insurance companies do. He COULD fight it and potentially win but at what cost in time and any legal fees?
To the OP: Good idea to sit back and see how it all falls out. I know you REALLY wanted that trailer but when the dust settles go back and see if it's still there. If not, it wasn't meant to be yours.
