Hello all,
Very new here to both travel trailers/ towing, and online forums, so please forgive any missteps in advance. I’ve got a 2014 Chevy Suburban LT, 5.3L V8, 4x4, 3.08 axle ratio. Was very disappointed to learn the max trailer weight rating is only 5000 lbs. How big of a TT can I safely tow? I’ve basically committed to buying a preowned hard-side, UVW 4200 lbs, 24 ft long. Chevy dealer (and of course the RV dealers) both said it could handle the load fine. Now reading some of these forums I’m not so sure.
Thanks for any help you can give!
It seems the 3:08's are 5000 lbs and the 3:42 is 5500 lbs.
But the 3:42 with the GM cooling package tows 8000 lbs. Would it make sense that f you had the cooling package you can tow 7500 lbs?
First off whats the hitch say on the truck? Theres a tag with its weight limits.
Next did you get the 3:08 from the RPO code in the glove box?GU4-3.08
It would seem you can tow more if the hitch is rated so, and you have/get the K5L heavy-duty cooling option. I believe this package includes only a transmission fluid cooler and engine oil cooler.
IMO put the biggest trans cooler you can fit. Then tow away. Keep an eye on engine temps. I dont think youll need an oil cooler. I dont have one. My engine runs 230 once in a while pulling the mountains but trans stays at 175f..
Make sure you dont overload the axles. Get a light tongue weight trailer.
What type trailer are you looking for?

Added second trans cooler to my truck. I tow 6000 lbs.
