I'm with Lawrosa. GM sold a lot of SUVs with your axle ratio that don't need to tow anything. The 3.42 axle only gains 500 pounds, so 3.08 isn't the "big issue". The 6-spd trans with 3.08 will offer better towing experience than the prior generation 4-spd with 4.10 axle. Lock out 5th & 6th gears, use tow/haul trans mode.
Get a HD trans cooler. You will need it for towing any high walled trailer anyway. They cost under $100, or $300 installed by any transmission shop. You already have the 7-pin wiring. You may need some fuses or relays that are currently vacant. You will need a brake controller that only came with the 3/4 tons.
I'd be comfortable up to 5k dry with the added HD cooler.
