I use retractable leashes. Responsibly. I generally walk both dogs at once, leashes are shortened and locked until we are in the "dog walk" area. I walk fast to get there, and neither dog is allowed to stop and sniff, they have to hustle. I don't want them peeing or pooing in someone else's campsite.
When we get to the dog walk area, the leashes are released (extended) so they can wander and sniff and do their business, which always gets picked up. On the way back to our site, it is short leashes again, and moving along so they cannot stop and sniff.
