In the national parks we spend a lot of time sightseeing. In our “normal” camp trips in the boonies, though, my favorite pastime is hiking. When the granddaughters were younger and often traveled with us I’d take them out in the mountains and teach them to find water and track game and to find their way out with a map and compass. They’re teenagers now and that era is mostly over.
We still hike a lot and I still look for wildlife, but now I spend more time in camp and I read a lot. If I brought my gear I may do some art work or photography. I travel sans electronics and generators so in the evening we often play cards or board games. The DW reads, too, and often just relaxes and listens to the lack of noise. If we get bored and there’s a small town nearby we may drive in and look it over. Or we may FW back in the boonies and just see what’s there. Been doing it all my life and have never tired of it.
