This is what I bought for the long overhead cabinets, along with a bunch of dowels that fit the holes. I cut two pieces, lined them up so that the holes matched, screwed them together with some 1" x 1" spacers between, and cut the dowels so that they stuck out of the top board about 6 inches. The space between the dowels is highly adjustable. I separate the Corelle plates with cheap paper plates so they don't rattle. Glasses and coffee cups each get their own space, surrounded by dowels. No noise and no breakage so far.
BTW, Corelle won't break, but it will shatter into a bunch of little shards if dropped from a reasonable height at the correct angle.
Sheets of rubber shelf liner keep bigger items from sliding around.
BTW, I store cans of carbonated beverages with the tab facing up. That's the way the trucks that deliver them to the stores do it, and they don't explode on their trucks.
I also learned the hard way that Melamine coffee cups are unbreakable if dropped, but if you pour sufficiently hot coffee into one, a 360 degree crack will instantly appear where the side meets the bottom and the cup will empty itself in every direction instantly.
