What Do You Wish Your Partner Had Done Before They Died?

I am dying, and unlikely to see this Christmas. I can still do a little, and sometimes can persuade my brain to half work. So, for those who have had a partner die on them, what is the biggest issue you wish they had taken care of before they died?

I want to save my wife as much trouble as I can. I think I’ve done all the obvious things, but want to hear from those who have actually been through this. What have I probably forgotten? Comments please?

  • Ok this post tears me up a little. Been a paramedic for 20 years. Seen tons. Dont get to see the love and grief that comes before dying. Tell everyone how much you love them. DNR so that the squad isnt called when the day comes. Hospice is wonderful. Enjoy all you can...fat lady hasnt sung yet.
  • I am sorry to hear this.

A will, a trust, and a frank discussion with your partner about disclaiming if have assets in excess of $5M or if you live in one of the 21 states that have estate taxes.

    Best wishes,
    Steve
  • I haven't lost a spouse, but having lost both parents, I would say to them "don't worry about anything, we'll take care of it." I would make a list of your wishes. When we're grieving we sometimes can't remember things. I'm sure all she wants to hear is how much you love her. God Bless you both.
  • I can't answer your question because I haven't had the experience, but know that you are loved, and I'm praying for comfort for you and your wife.
