Found this hanging in a lamp post hook at a campground. EDIT:OK wise guys, hand is for scale (but you knew that). What is it?

Actually, a retaining pin is not so crazy. Bottom part of the hook, hang your item on it. Top bigger part, goes over a small tree branch or whatever. After you put over the branch or pole then take the long clip and catch it behind the the long part, like a paper clip. Now the thing is securely attached and won’t come off. Either that, or go to This Old House and see if they can figure it out.
