But if you only have so much money, I think it is better to invest your money into good tires, and an infrared temp gage. I don't like the hand method. Because it is normal to feel a temp difference from the shady side to the sunny side. And when walking around the trailer to get to the other side, I lose the temp feeling in my hand. So the hand method is unreliable. The infrared is discriminate and reliable.
You hit the nail on the head. Quality tires = no tire problems. Or very few! Those are usually road hazards.
I have never had even a flat on the 4 5th wheel trailers we have owned.
