That's not what a blowout is. You had a gash in the sidewall that caused your tire to go flat over a period of time. That's a flat tire. A blowout is when the tire rips open and goes flat instantly. It can happen for various reasons.
Yes a TPMS will alert you to a possible blowout situation. However, if you hit something on the road that causes the blowout, the TPMS isn't going to help you in that situation. It will let you know the tire is flat after the fact, but it won't alert you of an impending problem.
And some folks have reported a complete tread loss with no drop in air pressure or a warning from their TPMS that the tread was gone.

Very interesting Statement.......Some have lost tread.....WITH NO DROP IN AIR PRESSURE...and No warning ..the tread was gone.....
.. Why Would It Alert??????.....
So, you think it needs to be a T.P.M.S........,L.T.A.S.(..Lost Tread Alert System)
