Honestly. I bought the truck used. It had 19,000 on it, and the tires were pretty well gone when I got it.
As for the smoking part. With the Coopers, and the OPEN diff. You could not start out from a stop, with out spinning the tire. It was almost scary. Especially when you needed the thing to actually go. It would do it with the TT hooked up as well.
So I put a limited slip in it. It no longer spins excessively from a stop. But will make the tires cry when I pull out of the plants drive way, and where it comes out on the main road, Just past a blind curve. You don't ease out. You got to go. Other than that. It no longer just breaks loose, and never spins with the TT hooked up. But the tires that I put on just after I had the LS put in. Still have worn out pretty quick.
Thinkin of putting The Discoverer Plus back on. They were really stable while towing, and the LS may keep them from getting too happy.
