What kind of small/medium truck can be towed

We have a 38 ft Dutch Star diesel pusher. We have been towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee for about 7 years but now thinking about a truck. Not a big truck, but one that can pull our 19ft boat (not at the same time it is being towed, of course). What kinds of trucks can be towed 4 down without much effort? our Jeep Grand Cherokee has been so easy to hook up to our blue ox, we are kind of spoiled.
Thanks for any suggestions!
  • Any 4WD 1/2 ton with a N position on the T-case. A Chevy Colorado can tow that size boat as well as a Jeep Gladiator.
  • 2015+ Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon can be flat towed.

I have a 2017 with the 2.8L Duramax. Powerful little truck.

I towed this with it across WA State when I bought the truck and got 19-20 mpg.
  • Check with the manufacturer on-line before you buy…and carefully.
  • We tow a 2012 GMC Canyon 4WD:

Dead simple setup when readying to tow.
Hook it to the tow bar, then flip a switch to enable supplemental brakes, as I installed the Demco Stay-N-Play braking.
To put the transfer case in neutral, turn on the ignition, step on the brakes, put the gear selector in neutral, then hold 2H and 4L together for 10 seconds. After the N indicator lights up, put it in park and pull the key.
    Done.

The 2nd Generation Colorado/Canyons are a bit more involved, but they are towable, as is the new Rangers.

As Way2Roll mentioned, consult the towing guides, then download the user manuals for those vehicles you are interested in. If the towing guide says a vehicle is towable, then verify as the manufacture's user manuals are the definitive guide.

Keep in mind that not all Hi-N-Lo transfer cases can be towed four down! There are a few that will not properly lube the bearings and seals when being towed in Neutral. I once had a Jeep CJ7 that could not be towed without modifying the transfer case. I sold it.
ALWAYS read and follow the manufacturer's recreational towing instructions!

    No.... Prostar 205V?

    I'm "BruceMc", not "brucemac".
