What ladder and size for inspection/repairs.

An 8' to 10' painter's type ladder, depending on your trailer height, works well and is quite stable. Don't get an extension ladder because you have to lean it against the trailer. I think mine is 10' and it is just about the same height as the trailer. I bought it at Lowes.

I'm a big old guy. This is my method for inspection.

I have my son go up with a digital camera and take photos of the areas of interest. I can then view them on my laptop or TV in great detail.

I can also see my roof, when I'm park in my driveway, from the upstairs bedroom windows.

You can also put your camera on a tripod or pole, set the timer and hold it up and photograph your roof.

Don't skimp on a ladder...if you are leaning toward an a-frame ladder, look at the Little Giant or a similar design by Werner (Home Depot carries them). I had a cheap, wobbly a-frame aluminum ladder a few years ago and fell from about 3 feet and broke my fibula and tibia. The adjustable ladders may weigh more but worth not having to spend months on crutches!

Redundant?

The little giant is so solid on the ground and makes an incredible extension ladder. My rv has a ladder rack on the rear so I hang it on it, locked in place with a heavy bicycle cable. I took the ladder to the local paint shop and they powder coated it to match the RV. They are not cheap but solid as anything you can buy. You can climb both sides of the ladder in the A frame mode. Take it apart and make a scaffold. At least go online and check them out. To get on my roof I can actually climb right onto the little giant from the ground and use it to get me to the rest of the built in ladder. In other words, I don't have to take it off to get on the roof. You can carry most of them in the back seat of a car. Try that with a fixed ladder.

Ok, so I will look at the adjustable step ladder/extension convertable type. What would be a good working size or length? I have seen one that is about 9 feet but they say 13 with you standing on it.

Little Giant makes a ladder that has a double frame like a standard ladder where the steps are and a single inverted T for the opposite side. Both are adjustable from 5-9 feet and make is easy to have one side longer when dealing with stairs. It has no flex and is very stable.

I have three different Little Giant ladders and they are as well made a ladder as you can find. Not the cheapest but definitely the strongest and easiest to use.

A Little Giant or equivalent Werner are excellent, I have 2 and I am 6' 3 1/2" 250lbs and they are rock solid. :)
