The entire coast is breathtaking (especially from a "Florida" perspective) - but the stretch from Florence, north past Yachats, is amazing. Plan on lots of time spent simply looking/photographing. Probably one of our favorite camping places was Ft Stevens State Park, at the mouth of the Columbia River. Each campsite is tucked into a forest of massive trees.
Gold Beach was a great little waterfront town - look for the wreck of the Mary D Hume in the harbor. The bridges of Oregon are spectacular - very Gothic or Art Deco in design. I'll be honest, when we were there 2 years ago in the fall, many of the waterfalls had been reduced to trickles due to drought, so I can't really comment on those.
Hood River and the Columbia Gorge are amazing - we were treated to about a hundred kitesurfers/sailboarders out enjoying the river and wind!
Thanks for this great info. Yep, we have hiked to waterfalls before just to find them trickling.
That drought must have contributed to the fires they had this year.
