We have finally decided against a Trike or 3 wheeler for a towed vehicle. We also do not want the headache of a trailer or dolly so we need suggestions for a light weight vehicle we can tow behind our 2007 RVision B+. My main concern is the tow vehicle is an 8 cyl Chevy.We plan to do some cross country trips in the next year. I don't plan to replace either of our daily vehicles with the tow.Suggestions? What I've seen discussed the most on the boards is a Jeep Wrangler. I plan to use your suggestions as a list to start investigating weights and pricing, ease of towing etc. I just need a good place to start with all the details.

That's what I just got to tow behind my class C motorhome. I have not gone on any long trips yet but it was great on a short trip. I love the wrangler it is so fun to drive. It did cost about 1700.00 for a blue ox base plate, tow bar and a blue ox patriot breaking system and I am very happy with this set up. Good luck and enjoy.

We are using a Kia Soul with manual trans as our Toad. Very roomy and light at 2700lbs. Has been great so far.

We tow a Subaru impreza sport. Manual transmission. Blue ox base plate and Ready Brute Elite tow bar and brake. put it in neutral, turn key to first position and it is ready to tow. It is the daily driver for DW.

I would look at a used sedan with manual trans. You can check to see if they can be towed 4 wheels down on line by searching 20xx Dingy towing guide. I would look at Corola, Yaris, Accent, Sonic, Focas and Versa to start. These are all under 3000 lbs. The Versa is the cheapest and has a lot of trunk space. I store a bike and other stuff in the trunk. I looked at the Fiats and Smart Cars but have no trunk space and have the same mpg as the above sedans.

Hyundai Accent manual transmission weighs about 2500 lbs. and can be towed four wheels down.

Thanks for all the replies. I found a place local to weigh it and we have about 3000 lbs to play with. We like the looks of the Honda Fit and the Toyota Yaris. Most of the Trackers we saw for sale are completely ragged out.

I would love to find something already set to tow, but that will be pushing our luck. We've asked the salesman at the Toyota dealership to keep an eye out for trade ins for us. (They have a lot of our money so he will keep us posted. :D)

I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla that I have towed 80k miles and driven another 170k miles. It is about the size of the newer Yaris. What I like and may be something for you to consider is that the sedans like the Yaris seem to have more storage in back of the rear seat. I can fit a mtn bike in the trunk and still sit two or three Gkids in the back seat.

We just received a phone call from the salesman about a trade-in. A 2005 Toyota Corolla 5 spd already set up for towing. It is being checked out and he will let us know when it is ready to look at.

X2 on the Honda Fit.
We love ours; it's easy towing, has lots of cargo space (holds both our bikes inside), is well built, and fun to drive.

Be careful on which year though.....the new(er) ones are no longer approved for towing 4 wheels down.

Golfknut, I would have loved to get a FIt, but the Corolla I just drove home "fit" out budget better. :D

We now have a 2004 Corolla already set up for the tow bar. Now we have to get the RV end of it and check on the brake thing.

I tow a manual transmission 2001 Honda Insight with a 2001 23' Tioga motorhome with a 5.4L Ford V8. Honda Insights from 1999-2006 were built with all aluminum chassis and engine and are hybrid drive but only 2 passenger. The car weighs under 1800 lbs. Blue Ox makes a baseplate for this rare car and it tows beautifully in addition to getting 60+ mpg on its own. Towing at 60mph, I get 10-11 mpg.
