What to tow?

Looking for a new tow vehicle, towed a 2001 Malibu for years, had only to hook up , pull a fuse and put in neutral & down the road we go, Had to junk Malibu this past year, Not sure what to get to pull now, Loo0ked at Jeeps, but found that We had to put in a special pump . looking to find a small SUV to tow without having to spend an arm & leg to be able to pull behind our 2008 Georgetown MH. Looking at vehicles around 7500 and campers world gave us a price of 1500 for tow parts that we will have to have. we have a falcon 2 tow bar.Any advise is appreciated as to what to get, Thanks
  • The Chevrolet Tracker 4WD and Suzuki Vitara are fine toads. I just found one in Ft Collins with 38,000 miles in your price range.
  • Certain models of the 2017 Malibu with a specific engine can be towed flat. The 2017 Malibu is light years away from the 2001. It is very roomy, comfortable and modern.
  • Since your looking for a small SUV I would suggest you look for Chevrolet Equinox. Like your Malibu you just pull one fuse and put it in neutral to tow.
  • What Jeep were you looking at the needs a lube pump?
All Wranglers are towable four down by putting the transfer case in Neutral and the transmission in Park (automatic) or in gear (manual).
The same applies to most Cherokees and Grand Cherokees.
In fact, it applies to nearly all 4X4 Jeeps with the 2-speed transfer case that has a Neutral position.
Yes, as always, there are exceptions.
  • 7500 isn't going to get you much. Don't know which jeep you looked at, but most can be towed without the pump. GM twins Equinox and Terrain make excellent small toads as does the pre-2014 Honda CRV.

Don't forget to get supplemental brakes for the toad regardless of what you purchase.

  • Go to the dinghy guides for the appropriate years. They are all available online from MH website.
