Someone posted this one time and I can't remember who... "Even if you don't how to fix/repair an item... if you come accross someone who does, it sure would be nice to have the tools for them to work on it." I thought that was great advice.
Myself, I would never be caught with out a multi-meter for diagnosing electical issues. (along with a decent assortment of standard tools) something like
this tool kit. Also, a bottle jack for tire repair along with tools to remove and install flat tires. I also carry an assortment of wire connectors, extra fuel line, spark plugs and wires from last time they were changed (actually had a wire go bad and had to replace on the road, glad I kept the old wires), hose clamps, etc. I also carry a compressor to air up bike tires, or maintain vehicle tire pressures. Spare belts from last change (again as an emergency replacement) are also a good idea to hold onto. A pair of "mechanics gloves" in case you need to work on something that is hot. An infra-red thermometer, to check tire, hub, and brake temps. A tire pressure gauge and air chuck.
I'm sure there are plenty of things that I'm forgetting, but hopefully others will chime in. Hope this helps.
