22.5% on the construction road into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, about 10 miles east of Montrose, Co.. I had a regular run with a semi tanker full of liquid alum when the dam was built in the middle 70s. It was 1st and 1st gears in the Pete with the Jake on, all the way down. There was a much steeper, narrow, tight, blind hairpin at the bottom and I tried the brakes once to see if I could stop, if there was ever an emergency and no such luck... 80k lbs sliding aimlessly! Luckily, I never met anything going up that hairpin when I was going down! I've gone up dirt forest roads with our 5er and I was scratching all the way. I would have been SOL if I had the stop. Craig
