Read the article but have not seen the report. I visit CA State Parks in SoCal quite often. Of the parks I am familiar with, other than Anza-Borrego, they are almost always filled to the max. I have never seen a California State Park with sports facilities as they are usually established to secure a natural or historical area. Latino’s utilize parks in Calif. quite regularly and, if half the population in Calif. is Latino, I would say half the people I see in parks are Latino so it is not evident to me why the report says the future of the park system relies on it. The California parks are at risk due to a lack of funding. That is true of most of the infrastructure in California though. Whoever drafted this report had an underlying political agenda to further the influence of Latino’s in Calif. Adding athletic facilities, soccer or otherwise, would not fix the budget shortfall. Preserving the natural or historical value of the parks will assure their long time survival.
