When I ranked states parks a few years ago, CA came out 39th (out of 49).
At the time, my takeaway was that in general CA parks don't really serve modern RVers. For example, only 18% of CA sites were available for RVs 40 feet or greater. The average for all state parks is almost 50%. Also, the vast majority of CA parks lack electrical & water hookups.
Everyone's entitled to their opinions, as of course are you.
Just as State Parks don't exist solely to provide places to play soccer, State Parks don't exist to cater only to RVs. There are RV parks where huge motorhomes and lengthy trailers can find accommodation. Some people make a conscious decision to have a shorter vehicle for the very reason of being able to be accommodated in some State Parks. Some of us like the fact that there are no on-site water or electrical hookups. Again, many state parks were designated to provide access to unique geological or ecological features, not just a place for anyone with any size vehicle to camp.
We cannot and should not expect State Parks to continually lengthen their spurs and turn their camggrounds into parking lots every time the industry decides to add 5 feet to a trailer, or build in more and more slide outs. I appreciate State Parks being more primitive. Private campgrounds can provide the space for the bigger RVs.
And I have a "modern" travel trailer, as it is only a couple of years old. In order to be modern, it doesn't necessarily need to be the size of the Queen Mary.
Of course, your opinion may vary.
