Wheel Bearings

Why do the newer cars and trucks never have to have the wheel bearings repacked but rv's still need them to be repacked. Plus why don't tt & 5 th wheel mfg. offer an odometer option on their wheels? 50-75 dollars is nothing when you are spending 50,000 dollars for a unit.......

  • On the subject of re-packing wheel bearings, How often do you suggest re-packing the wheel bearing on a 5th wheel trailer

You can get nev-r-lube bearings that are good for 100,000 miles. We have had them for 3 years now and like them. I've been told by others that they would never have them and when I ask why I'm told that if I have a problem it's hard to get parts. So far so good, here is a web page for more information.

I looked at this page and it showed 35mm,42mm and 50 mm, how do I determine which is the correct size for my 5th wheel??

Our Ford has a setting that we can keep track of the mileage of our trailer when it’s hooked up to the truck. We can also set it for different trailers that we might tow, nice feature.

How does it know when you are driving solo or with the trailer in tow?

This is some good information. I'll look for these for my TT. Thanks for the post.
  • The real changes are seals and grease. Seals now are better than they ever were and the synthetic greases don't age as the old stuff did. I just buried a 15yo passcar with near 200k on it and it still had 4 original wheel bearings.

  • For me I figure when I replace my tires after 5 yrs I'll get the bearing repacked also.
