I boondock most of the summer (89 days last summer). I disinfect the tank in the spring and do not drain it until the fall (I just keep adding to it).
When filling the tank with spring water or river water I add 1 tsp of bleach per 5 gallons of water. Have been doing it this way for years with no problem.
