When to quit.

We are both 80. My thought is when the prep for a trip and the work after exceeds the enjoyment of the vacation it's time.
We aren't there yet but may have to curtail our annual trips to Florida from the Midwest for health reasons.

I am turning 75 shortly. Earlier this year we sold our Arctic Fox 5th wheel and bought a small-24 ft- Class C. Had to back off RV'ing for a couple of years because my D.W. was ill. She is good now and we are raring to get out there again. Our 1st trip with the Class C we took a longish trip to McAllen, Tx. to visit our daughter and her family. Had a blast and we're planning to get going again, soon.

We'll quit when it's no longer exciting to do, I guess? Just to see if I could do it (yes!) if Ed ever became incapacitated, I did the 1300-mile drive to Florida in our usual 2 day schedule. He's 71, I'm 66. Blessed with good health, I hope we have at least another decade of fun ahead of us; but we also recognize that each day is a gift.

I'm in my 70's, have been RVing for over 60 years. My RV activity has had many forms and faces over the years. When I was a child, my family would stay at a state park for a week or so at a time and we kids would play while our parents relaxed. When a parent myself, we went all over the USA sightseeing and the kids came along on all of it. As a fit solo traveler, I camped on public lands and hiked or did volunteer trail maintenance work. Now, as a disabled person, I go wherever my 4x4 RV can take me and I enjoy the scenery when I get there. My vision and brain are fine. I can get in and out of the RV and can fill or drain it as needed. If I cannot manage those tasks safely, or if my ability to drive in a manner that is safe for me or for others on the road deteriorates, then I will quit. It won't be easy and I hope it won't be soon.

A UTI can happen anywhere anytime. I don't see the relevance to RVing, unless you had trouble getting to see a doctor because you were far from any hospital or other medical care.

I figure when I can't find the door to the trailer from the inside, then it's time to quit.

Turning 78 today and I have no plan to stop yet. After I finish treatment for prostate cancer we plan to hit the road. For years we have not traveled long days leaving by 9 am and stopping about 2 -2:30 pm. Our traveling companions, same age, are coming here in January when we usually take off together. I think (hope so) when it’s time to stop we’ll know, but until that happens we plan to continue. ADDED STORY. May have been a joke but I heard one story about an RV club that had a 90 years old member that just bought new tires for his motor home.

At age 73 just sold our AF811 camper and bought the AF 22G trailer. We will still be out there 30 or so days per year but not travel as far. We just finished up 8 states in 18 months. Fortunately WA has wonderful state parks to camp in. Also, the thought of not having an RV bugs us. We are so used to having one that we will until circumstances force us otherwise.

We recently decided to stop towing, and “plant” our fiver here at the park we always enjoy for 4 months here in Florida.. The trips back and forth were no longer fun, but we enjoy camp life. So, it will be stored when we are gone, and brought out to our favorite site when we return, for a fee of course, but fair. My husband is 79 and has a bad shoulder and back, balance problems, etc., and I don’t want the stress of worry. Traded the truck for an SUV. A mobile RV tech is available for repairs we can’t do. I think it will work out better for us. Storage is cheaper here as well.
