I believe that the Lawyers have set the "spec" for oil consumption in some engines rather than the engineers. Engineers would most likely not "design" around that high a figure unless the bean counters got involved.
Typical, "make it the customers problem, not ours".
Exactly! it`s a number made up to quiet down those that have engines that use excess amounts of oil. and I do believe that the majority of vehicles don`t use oil! if they all did then there must be something wrong with all the cars I`ve owned because none have used any oil! and when I say no oil I`m talking a minor amount! I know there is a small film on the cylinder wall that gets burned during the combustion process. I think some here are taking my posts by he exact word! crazy!
FWIW, my Chrysler T&C uses 3 qts of oil in 3k miles. the problem is the pistons/rings. somehow the ring gaps get lined up and they start to burn oil. I used to be a tech at a Dodge dealer and we found this when someone came in complaing of excess oil use. it was just over a quart every 1k miles. we took it down to the pistons and found the ring issue. since that, whenever we had an oil consumption complaint we pulled the plugs and examined for oil contamination. very many 3.8 minivans and Pacificas had the problem. this summer I`m goingto be replacing the pistons (only way to get rings from Chrysler) to fix the oil consumption problem.
So If you want to accept the oil use fine, go ahead! not my problem. I`ll fix mine and anyone elses that has that issue!
