The only other idea I can add to the convo is to rent a trike near your camping site assuming you are staying there for awhile. Or buy one at an end of trip consignment or thrift shop.
I've room (I hope) for 2 adult folding bikes this summer but not for a needed child's bike. I currently rent cars to go camping(in fact when we are at our regular campground anyone can ask the park rangers what loop we are in by simply saying'Yanno the ones from NYC w/ the rental car? Bingo and we are found, LOL) and cannot add anything to the car top or a rack in the back. My solution is to buy a used kiddo bike at a local consignment shop and then donate it back to them at the end of the trip. I've done it so frequently now that close to camping time, the shop calls me, sends pics of stock and holds the one I pick out for me until my arrival. I've found that it's less expensive to buy a used bike than either purchase a new bike that won't fit for the return trip or rent one for the length of the vacation.
