Which trailer hitch Curt or Drawtite...but there is a catch

The Drawtite range is 1950 Pound Tongue Weight 13000 Pound Towing. Cost $267.

The Curt range 2400 Pound Tongue Weight 16000 Pound Towing. Cost $256.

Now common sense is telling me get to biggest one, bigger is better especially for weight.

But my paranoid and inexperienced side is saying whats the catch?

This will be for a 04' 2500 HD with a short box (pretty sure). Pulling a 34 foot Heartland that comes in around 7200 dry.

Thanks in advance.
  • Do you mean a fifth wheel hitch and not a tow bar right?
  • I have had a few Curt products and really liked them. Wouldn't hesitate to order another.
  • Never had a Curt. Cant answer for them. Drawtite has been good for me. The OP didnt mention Reese, but Reese has always been good for me too. I have a "Hidden Hitch" on my Jeep right now and I hate it. The opening is just a fuzzy bit too big. The bar just bangs and bounces around in there. Very annoying. I even wrapped a layer of black tape around the bar to tighten it up. Helped some, but I still feel loose and slop at stops/starts.

Stay away from Hidden Hitch. As I said I have used Drawtite and reese with great satisfaction. Unfamiliar with Curt.
  • For a hitch, I wouldn't worry about buying a Curt even though I probably wouldn't get their w/d hitch equipment. I'd only avoid their w/d equipment just because I like the Reese stuff better. I've heard of and seen lots of Curt hitches on peoples vehicles and I've never heard a complaint but I've never owned one either. Reese, Drawtite and Hidden hitch are all the same company and designs now as far as I can tell. I'd get the highest rated one, why not?
  • I'm pretty sure I put the curt receiver on my truck with the same rating about two weeks ago. I replaced a hidden hitch, which was lower rated and it did stick out from the bumper more than the curt. I ordered my curt from amazon. I left it in the amazon cart for a few weeks and they kept dropping the price. I purchased it when it was just about $200. They and etrailer were sold out of the next lower rating.

I'm very happy with the curt. It is a solid hitch and lookes very nice.
