John you could be on to something and I sure hope you are. The tires are the only difference from my last trip. Then, I was running a 285 D that came on the truck. I've since put on Cooper AT3 265 E's. So this is first trip with new tires.
Can you clarify a couple of things? When you towed with the 285 tires how did it do? Did you get the push, or you don't know because you weren't on the highway?
You have since towed on the highway with the 265 tires and that is when you experienced the push?
What brand and type of tire did you put on? Do you have the OEM forged AL wheels or the steel wheels? Along with increasing that front tire pressure, you might want to be aware that the OEM forged AL wheels are only 6.5" and should be run with at most 245 tires. All though, there are several (if not hundreds and thousands) people that do run the 265 and 285 tires.
Some of your handling could be an interaction between inflation, brand/type of tire and the size on that AL wheel.
I would also verify your tongue weight. I checked my tongue weight two times 4 years ago and it was right around 800#. This past Labor Day trip I stopped at a CAT scale and checked my weights and to my astonishment I was over 1100# tongue weight. I would have never guessed that as I didn't think that I was packed all that different from the first measurements. You may have the opposite scenario and have to little when you think you have enough.
