fulltimedaniel (the OP),
Your first post left off at least one type of RV'er that is NEVER mentioned in these - or any other - forums ... field rockhound RV'ers (as opposed to gem & mineral show RV'ers)!!
The main reason we bought a small but fairly rugged and fully self-contained but affordable RV is so that these kind of things are possible:
1. We can travel carefully off pavement on near-4X4 roads if needed.
2. We can sleep out there.
3. We can take showers out there.
4. We can stay cool in warm weather out there.
5. We can stay warm in cool weather out there.
6. We can read, surf the Net, or watch a movie in the evenings out there.
7. We can microwave out there.
8. We can bake a pizza out there.
9. We can watch the night sky out there.
10. We can steam vegetables out there.
11. We can sleep comfortably with CPAP machines out there.
12. We can listen to music outside in lounge chairs out there.
13. We can wash the dog out there.
14. We can leave the dog in air-conditioned safety while we look for rocks out there.
Many field rockhounds stay in motels and then during the day run around out there in pickups and SUVs ... but to camp out in the field is another thing altogether. There is nothing else that compares to it. Sometimes we wish we could afford a full-blown expedition type RV!
