- mowermechExplorerI agree with Marty on this one.
When I was pulling a fiver around, I ignored weigh stations. However, it would not have mattered if they had run it across the scales! The registered GVW of the truck was 14,000 lbs. There was no way I EVER exceeded that!
That is also why I will register my Dodge 1500 for 8,000 lbs. Again, there is no way I will ever exceed that weight on a short box truck! - Sundance07Explorer

Nope, (bet it wasn't me:)). I've heard a lot of sarcasm and been called a lot of ugly names, far worse than "weight police" over the years on this forum, something I've tried not to resort to. Even gotten PM's from people who couldn't call me some of the names they have on here and do it in a PM.....and all I've talked about is towing weights...no religion, no politics, don't cut on others campers or really flame on brand names to any extent, but whenever these weight post comes up...I have to admit, there are some in here that have went MUCH further than just calling someone "weight police"...sort of sad when we have to resort to name calling, but, such is life as we know it:)
Keep on educating the masses NC. ;)
You should see some of the rigs around here. We have a lot of oil and gas activity around here and consequently a lot of diesel trucks. You know if you have a diesel truck you can pull ANYTHING, right. :S
Quite common to see 2500's pulling 20,000# triple axle toyhaulers, with the headlights pointed to the sky. Also 1500's pulling 32" 5er's.
It makes me cringe watching the traffic going out for the weekends.
I try to educate as well, but most are gonna do what their gonna do.... - calamusExplorer

never stopped but lots of questions. - BedlamModeratorIn the end what everyone wants is a safe and capable combination. However, not everyone takes the same path to achieve this goal. It's up to each of the members to make informed decisions - The diversity of knowledge on this forum makes a great resource for information (that does not allows agree with itself).

There is lots of posts to do with weights and ratings etc. etc.
Has anyone ever been stopped and weighed by enforcement authorities while towing an rv?
I personally have not been and in driving NC roads I have not seen anyone with a camper pulled over.
BUT I made a concerned effort to buy only what my weights and GVRW's and all had to say I could tow.
I looked for two years at 5ers and kept coming back to weights. We narrowed down our choices to two and we choose the one that was lighter. I finally found what I wanted within my trucks tow ratings. Could have I gone 1-2000lbs heavier maybe. BUT I wanted to feel safe and comfortable towing & not have white knuckle driving or seat in the crack experiences.
Just me!
randy - Michelle_SExplorer IIIOK, not first hand knowledge, but on the MOC Forum there was a similar thread and one of the members reported they were escorted to a scales right after being involved in an MVA to verify that they were within all their weight limits.

:) I have also only been pulled over by the weight police here too. Apparently according to their information from the nsa database my rig did not even exist! - BedlamModerator

They attempted to pull me over too, but they were out of their jurisdiction so I continued rolling on.
I've towed through about 35 of the states in the past 30 years and have never been asked to pull over by a LEO.
