I wouldn't call that a blow out. I don't see where there was any part that actually "Blew out." No side wall or tread rupture.
But that sucker just totally came apart. As in ...failed to hold together. The sidewalls held together. The treads held together. But the seams and plys let go. In my mind that shows a GENERAL overall weakness in the tire. Even though the tire was almost 5 years old, it does not reflect well on the manufacturer.
Glad all is well now. By the way when you buy new tires, I hope you replace your spare too.
