I use the molded pre-wired flat-4 connectors.
On the connections, I solder the wire, slobber some electrical liquid tape over it, then heat shrink over the liquid tape before it sets up. Shrink starting in the middle working your way out, squishing the liquid out the ends. Makes a waterproof connection.
On the plug I just apply dielectric grease every so often.
