Why a pet charge ??

We have been traveling all over the west coast and have been charged from $5.00 to $10.00 per night "pet charge".
For the life of me I cannot figure our what the charge is for other than filling the owners pockets.
My lazy old black Lab doesn't use the pool or the rec room (if they have them) and carries his poop bag container on his leash. Other than matting the grass when he sleeps, he doesn't harm or utilize any of the offered "amenities".
My neighbor at one park was charged for his Parrot ??
Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation for the charge?
I'm glad I don't have an aquarium with 30 fish.....

well i want to complain 'cause i'm not there to complain!!! :)
  • Virginia State Parks now charge a $5 fee, per pet for a max of 3 days. So, if you come for a weekend and have 2 dogs, that is $10/dog. If you come for a week and have 1 dog, it's $15; 2 dogs, $30.

People do complain about it, but it's either that or not stay. Most people will gladly pay it, or try to get away with not paying and get caught later.
  • Three reasons:
    1. Pets do cause additional expenses. Labor, wear and tear, rule enforcement etc.
    2. Management tool, pet fee keeps away people with multiple dogs
    3. Revenue center, like any business parks are in it to make money.

It is a no win scenario. We don't have pet fees, so people complain about our limits on the number of pets, our rules regarding tethering, unattended pets, kenneling, our rules regarding where to walk them, and rules about picking up after them. If we had fees they would complain about that.
  • Also to cover the "liability" insurance. All dogs bite, but most haven't had a reason to. So in order to be "fair" they charge for all pets.
  • Fees are not necessarily for you, they're in response to other people who think the rules are not for them.
  • Too many inconsiderate pet owners have caused your pain. And it's not just in the commercial parks either. I've watched the Host of a SP walking his two little fur-kids, allowing them to leave a deposit on my site. His solution was to kick some leaves and pine straw over the pile. I guess he figured he already had his hands full. I love 'em, but current time constraints and costs are two reasons I decided not to have a pet while full timing. That can always change upon retirement.

they know you love your dog and will pay it. i'd give a lot more than that to have my faithful Collie back.
