John,
Know that those who dislike this topic of RATINGS, normally will
use a derogatory to deflate my type of advice..."Weight Police"
and note that there is no policing on these freebie forums and I
gladly wear that moniker as I'll only provide information for the OPs
to make their own decisions.
Many different threads...mainly GCWR..."R" is not followed...nor
advised by many...also 'ST' class tires...many, many advise to ignore
and/or okay to go higher speed if they inflate it over the sidewall
molded max speed rating
Too common is: "you are good for it"..."I've been doing it for years
with no problems"...etc, etc, etc
I've asked if they knew with "R" represented...which is "RATING"...and even ask
if they knew what 'RATING' meant...
I no longer try to educate them directly and nor point them to a dictionary/website
on that any more
Why normally advise those asking to decide if they believe in the OEM ratings
or not
If not, then academic and just do whatever...but note that they have taken the
OEMs (yes plural and many argue that point too) off the liability hook for both
warranty (if there is any left) and liability...to assume it themselves
If yes, then gather 'your' ratings numbers and learn how the OEM ratings system(s)
work
Normally post a diagram of a motorcycle (3 wheel) towing a trailer with notation
showing GAW, GVW, etc...with a note that those are the actual and that they
also have a rating...GAWR, GVWR, GCWR etc
Whimsy to show that anything can tow and that anything can/does have a RATING
Maybe not officially, as this 3 wheeled motorcycle looks homemade...if
they took the rear axle from the junk yard...say VW Bug...it has a
GAWR from VW...ditto the front wheel/tire...it's OEM has a 'RATING'
to it...ditto the rear tires, ditto the trailer tires...etc, etc, etc
