- SuzzeeeQ2012Explorerwe use our blue flame while we're driving, but the husband put long boards on the bottom so it doesn't tip. Only problem I can see if we're in an accident, I bet it might still tip if violent enough of a crash. I won't turn it on again while driving after seeing this!
Our class A is FREEEZING while we drive. Might have to look into a curtain right behind the driving area. - DakzukiExplorer IIIt's common sense not to drive around with dangerous stuff unsecured in the vehicle.
- wbwoodExplorerSeems like common sense to not drive around with a portable heater going like that.
- Rick_JayExplorer IIWell, glad to hear no one was hurt. I agree that he seemed to not be too familiar with what he was doing...or he was just a "throw caution to the wind" kind of guy.
Here's yet another reason I like our heat strips in our overhead air conditioners. I fire up the generator, set the thermostats on the wall and they keep the passengers nice and comfortable during the trip, plus it gives the generator it's needed exercise. The heat strips don't do a great job of quickly heating the rig, but they are very good at keeping it comfortable while rolling down the road.
~Rick - wa8yxmExplorer IIIIFC.. you have a good question there too.. NOW I do know that in Jan of 2012 when I left sunny and warm (pushing 80) Townsend GA for Fairplay SC, the dash heater was a bit .. not up to the task,, But we forgot we had left a window open.
We arrived here in FP, closed the window plugged in and warmed the RV a bit, FURNACE was non-op (But we have electric heat as well).
Temp that night in FP. 25.. Wife was complaining about how much warmer it was in GA.. yup, Darien (Next door to Townsend to the south) was 27 that morning when darling just married at the time Daughter woke up.
Now DD is making me visit GA again.. Back in DEC I had to pop down for her graduation (Master's program) and this summer. Grandchild #1 is due to arrive. (Thankfully when the bedroom A/C died.. I UPGRADED). - lfcjaspExplorerMaybe I'm missing something here: why was he running any heat, other than that from the cab's dash heating, in the first place? We've not done any cold weather camping in our MH yet, but in hot weather, we just run the cab AC, turn on the house AC only when we're parked. Wouldn't that work the same with the furnace, any heater? Run the cab heater on the road, turn on the furnace or space heater only when finally parked? What am I missing here????
- CavemanCharlieExplorer IIIMy propane heater has a tip over switch! But, I don't have a motor home and can not see why I would need to run a propane heater while driving, nor would I. Then the article says something about he lost control, ran off the road in high winds, and could not stop because of water on the sides of the road??? I guess I don't get that part but, it sounds like this guy didn't know what the heck he was doing.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIA thought.. He was running a NON VENTED propane heater inside an enclosed space.. I do not know if he had the dash heat on or now.. But lack of Oxygen may have contributed to the loss of control.
- powderman426ExplorerThat should buff out.:B
- mlts22Explorer IIOuch. That is a good reason to not loan a motorhome out.
